How hard it is to love man!1 min read

How hard it is to love man!
He is a monster of ingratitude;
He is selfish, vain, uncertain.
His word, is to him a wafer;
His pledges arc irregular breaths .
“How contemptible is man, ”
Says the worldly-wise Napoleon.
Nietzsche, Spengler, Machiavelli
Hold man in extreme contempt.
He is a robber of virgins’ virtue;
He hoards pebbles.
How hard it is to love man!
Yet there is a divine element in him;
He can love Truth.
Still I love man to promote
Virtue in him, to help him
To unfold his divine nature.
How angelic, how lovable is man!
