Realized by those who have purified their hearts
By the practice of austerity, sacrifice, charity and other virtues,
Who look upon a kingdom and other material achievements
As valueless and insignificant,
Who have withdrawn their minds from all mundane objects—
That Principle, Brahman Supreme,
The one, the eternal, the secondless,
I am, I am, I am.
He Who is realizable by the true disciples
Who worship with deep devotion the merciful Guru
Who knows God and is wisdom personified—
That Principle, Brahman Supreme,
The one, the eternal, the secondless,
I am, I am, I am.
He Who is bliss by nature and self-revealed,
Who is without any determination,
And unrelated to matter and its forms,
Who is indicated by the mental state
Of ‘I am Brahman’, the fourth state (turiya)—
That Principle, Brahman Supreme,
The one, the eternal, the secondless,
I am, I am, I am.
He, the ignorance of Whose nature
Is transformed into the world entire,
Who, when realized, the world is negated,
Beyond the reach of speech and mind,
Purest of all, ever free—
That Principle, Brahman Supreme,
The one, the eternal, the secondless,
I am, I am, I am.
He Who is fully revealed to the contemplatives
Who have neglected all through the expression ‘Not this, not this’,
Who is not conditioned by the three states of consciousness,
Nay, Who is the Fourth, the ever-transcendent—
That Principle, Brahman Supreme,
The one, the eternal, the secondless,
I am, I am, I am.
The endless, the all-pervasive,
The source of the world, that Shiva
Unrelated to any association and condition,
Who is expressed by the holy syllable Om,
The formless, all light, untouched by death—
That Principle, Brahman Supreme,
The one, the eternal, the secondless,
I am, I am, I am.
